Campus Food: Pasta & Sandwiches

Living on campus is beneficial, but not to your stomach. At my campus, living in the dorms means no kitchens. The only way to have access to a cooking area is through living in the campus apartments, which are obviously more expensive.

And the biggest downfall of any campus dining is the dreaded Freshman 15. But why is it deemed that way? Buffet-style, self-serve eating is not the best way to keep fit, especially when you are a hungry, [still] growing young adult. Add in that the campus diet is probably a complete 180 of what you generally eat at home, your body will have issues adjusting to the new food lifestyle.

My main go-to on campus is generally pasta. But even after a while, I got sick of pasta with the same sauces all the time so I converted to making my own sandwiches for lunch. Generally, the deli meats are always out so I can make it whenever. Occasionally, there aren't any materials out to use. My sandwich generally goes like this: toasted white bread, ranch dressing, ham, salami, onions, lettuce, toast. Sometimes, I mix in turkey instead. Sometimes, it's only one type of meat depending on what's available. I still have other food with the sandwich, but this year, it's become a more regular thing. Perhaps the quality of our campus food has just declined so much that I really don't have much of a choice anymore.
